BONGABON, Nueva Ecija – The landslide that rendered impassable a portion of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Barangay Labi here during the onslaught of Typhoon Jolina last Sept. 9, has finally been cleared.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Sunday completed the works along the Kilometer 0166+920 section of the highway, the agency reported on Monday.
DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said the affected section of the road was temporarily opened to traffic on Sept.10 after the maintenance team of the Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office cleared one of its lanes.
However, it was again closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday due to new landslides caused by the rains brought by tropical disturbance “Kiko”.
“The two lanes of the affected road section are now passable to all types of vehicles as our maintenance crew completed the clearing work yesterday afternoon,” Tolentino said in a social media post.
Continuous works, however, are being conducted to completely clear the area of remaining mud and debris along the affected road section to make it safe for passing motorists, the official added.
Meanwhile, there are some road sections and bridges in the region that are still not passable to light vehicles, including the Sto. Tomas-Minalin-Macabebe section, Apalit-Macabebe-Masantol road and the San Simon-Baliwag road. (PNA)
